HOLISTIC MEDICINE

For the most part, modern medicine is designed to confront isolated events. In many cases, this is most likely the best approach. For instance, following severe cardiac arrest (a heart attack), a good healing strategy might involve cardiothoracic transplantation surgery (heart transplant). However, in considering various healing approaches to achieve good preventative medicine (avoiding the onset or recurrence of cardiac arrest, for instance), one might strongly consider the benefits of diet, exercise, healthy living practices, and holistic medicine.

Definition: Holistic medicine is a macroscopic (overall) view of an illness or condition that incorporates insights from historic and contemporary teachings in fields of spiritualism, mental health, and physical health.

Modern Western medicine is a “hard science” in that it develops many of its theories based upon hard or (often) tangible, observable evidence from sources such as case studies (medical precedent), findings from scientific instruments, and family histories pointing to one’s likely genetic proclivities.

Holistic medicine offers alternative or supplemental healing methodologies that place healing focus on more than simply isolated events. Instead, the healing focus examines the possible disruptions in the dynamics between mind, spirit, and body. Many forms of holistic medicine approach any attempts to cure or otherwise improve upon a disease or a physical condition with organic, all-natural drugs and therapies. Such means are intended to keep one’s life cycles intact with the natural world.
